RESMAN Celebrates 20 Years of Service and 40 Years of Insight

In 2025, we proudly celebrate two incredible milestones: 20 years of service as RESMAN and 40 years of insight in tracer technology and reservoir monitoring.

This anniversary isn’t just a commemoration of time but a celebration of breakthroughs, partnerships, and the people who shaped us into a global leader in wireless reservoir monitoring.

From our humble beginnings to becoming the industry benchmark in tracer technologies, our story is one of passion, teamwork, perseverance, and precision. Today, we take pride in our technology having the lowest detection limits, the highest number of patents, and the most scientific publications in the industry.

The Roots of Innovation (1986–2005)

While RESMAN officially launched in 2005, our story stretches back to 1986, when we conducted our very first Interwell tracer injection. These early years were defined by pioneering work that laid the groundwork for everything we’ve achieved since.

In 1991, we introduced the industry's first interwell chemical gas tracer, followed by the first chemical water tracer injection in 1995, a testament to our early commitment to pushing the boundaries of subsurface monitoring.

The Founding of RESMAN (2005)

The year 2005 marked the official beginning of RESMAN, born from a unique collaboration between IFE (Institute for Energy Technology), Statoil (now Equinor), and SINTEF, one of Europe’s largest independent research institutions. With just two visionary founders, Anne Dalager Dyrli and Fridtjof Nyhavn, we embarked on a mission to revolutionize reservoir monitoring.

That very first year, we set our foundation: the development of our core polymer technology with SINTEF and our tracer innovations supported by IFE.

Pioneering Breakthroughs (2006–2015)

By 2006, we were already breaking ground, installing our first well project with StatoilHydro (today Equinor) at the Norne-Urd field, still with two employees only. That same year, we proudly presented at ONS and declared our first vision: to be the leading provider of reservoir management services based on chemical intelligence.

Over the next decade, our growth accelerated:

  • In 2007, we achieved parts-per-billion detection limits! Although our detection limits have since reached parts per trillion—and even quadrillion—this was a major breakthrough that enabled technology growth at the time.
  • By 2009, we had grown to 20 employees and expanded into Canada with Husky Energy (now Cenovus).
  • Our technology and values evolved, achieving ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certifications, new facilities, and established a global footprint. Our first company values were established. “Work, Joy, Dream.”
  • By 2010, we launched our first Shell project, applying inflow water tracers for MEG loop monitoring—a project we still monitor today!

In 2012, we launched iRES for commercial interpretation and secured our first quantification and PITT chemical tracer patents. That same year, we expanded to the UK and UAE, continued to build a global client base, and welcomed new milestones like gravel pack monitoring and drop ball frac solutions. By 2013, we grew to 55 employees, and our values evolved to “Explore - Fun – Drive."

Becoming Global, Staying Grounded (2016–2020)

With clients like Aramco, Shell, Chevron, and ADNOC joining our journey, our global footprint continued to expand. We introduced our RESViZ software plugin for reservoir visualization, increased our temperature rating to 200 degree Celsius, filed our RESCARB steady-state quantification patent, and received ISO 45001 certification.

Through our growth, our people remained at the heart of RESMAN. Our values set during this period—Professional, People, and Proactive—remind us to prioritize excellence, collaboration, and innovation in everything we do. We focus on empowering individuals, excelling professionally, and leading proactively by fostering a collaborative environment, valuing open communication, and supporting each other.

A New Period of Insight and Innovation (2021–2025)

Recent years have seen some of our most transformative achievements:

  • In 2021, we monitored our longest well at 45,000 feet and our team grew to 80 people
  • 2022 saw the birth of our sustainability strategy and the first tracer modelling tools.
  • In 2023, we welcomed Bonnie Powell, our first female CEO, and were granted a patent for our steady-state RESCARB method.
  • By 2024, we launched HIDS, entered the geothermal space with Utah FORGE, opened new lab and production facilities, consolidated our EOR portfolio with our NearSat and DeepSat solutions, and introduced Restrack, our client portal.

We also rebranded as RESMAN Energy Technology, adopting the tagline: "We make energy traceable." This new identity reflects not just who we are today but where we’re going tomorrow.

And in 2025, we reached another milestone: a patent for Carbon Credit tracking in CCS applications, aligning our innovations with the global energy transition.

Today, we proudly hold:

  • 31 granted patents (25 in production, 5 in reservoir, 1 in CCS)
  • 22 pending patents, including 6 in geothermal

We also celebrated being officially recognized as a "Great Place to Work"—a moment made even more meaningful by 100% employee participation.

Looking Ahead

From just two founders to a global team of over 80 passionate professionals, RESMAN’s story is far from over. As we reflect on the past 20 years of service and 40 years of insight, we are reminded of what makes us unique: pursuit of excellence, commitment to science, and a culture that empowers people to dream bigger and go further.

Thank you to our clients, partners, employees—past and present—and everyone who has been part of this extraordinary journey. Together, we make energy traceable.

Happy Anniversary, RESMAN. Here’s to the next chapter!
